Helen - Director

“Build the child, the rest will follow.”

Helen came from a background that included being Head of Mathematics & Coordinator of Gifted and Talented Education, to work at our Centre in 2007 as a tutor in basic literacy & numeracy and Secondary Mathematics & Science, becoming Administrator of the business in 2012 and owner and Director in 2016.

Helen believes that students learn best when they feel good about themselves at whatever level of achievement they have attained.

Having long believed in the concept of multiple intelligences and that each child has their own unique learning style, she knows that given enough time and access to support, students can develop their confidence to the point where they can say they did it themselves.

Having started at our centre in June 2021, Ashley brings both her skills from her Master’s studies in education as well as her talents from her Bachelor of Fine Arts, to assist her students in their studies across the curriculum.

Kylee

"As a tutor, the thing that means the most for me is getting a student to that “Aha!” moment when their understanding drops into place and their confidence begin to bloom. This then becomes the foundation for their next success, and learning is transformed into a chase to conquer what previously seemed impossible.”

Kylee comes to us from an extensive academic background containing a wealth of experience that includes her time as a University tutor in professional and business writing at Masters level and teaching master’s students professional writing practice.

In her encounters with our students, Kylee brings her cheerful and open personality along with her strong critical reading and copy-editing skills to enable each child to feel fulfilled in their learning development.

Cert III Education Support

Janene

"I enjoy working as a tutor as it provides me with the opportunity to share my knowledge with my students. It’s a great feeling knowing that I play such a vital role in my student’’s educational careers by providing them with the tools they need to succeed. I find it especially rewarding when a student is able to understand a challenging concept using strategies provided as it is a huge self-esteem booster for them.”

Janene describes herself as highly organised, motivated and goal oriented. Coming from an earlier background as an administration officer and customer service specialist, Janene knows the value of effective written and oral communication.

Janene brings both her skills from her studies in education as well over five years working with students supporting them in the development and learning in both literacy and numeracy. Her unique individualised approach makes every child in her care feel confident that they can learn to do it themselves.

About Al Roberts - Our Founder

Al Roberts believed that "all children can learn". There are three key issues that we aim to provide with our tutoring—improving the child's self-esteem and confidence, improving their skills and developing good work habits that they can take into life with them. Good teachers, good programmes and a caring approach are vital.

Al spent 15 years as a Director of Studies and Deputy Principal of Moreton Bay College, and 10 years as the principal of P-12 schools including Sunshine Coast Grammar School. He was well-placed to use his many years of experience in education to develop a centre where children could benefit from both his leadership skills and significant experience in the teaching of English and literacy. Today it has been our privilege to build on that very successful foundation.

Located in Wynnum West and servicing the greater Brisbane area,  our tutoring team brings a high degree of professionalism to the Wynnum West centre and aims to achieve the very best academic results we can for your child. We provide professional after-school tutoring in mathematics and English, Prep to Year 12 (other subjects as required).

At the core of our beliefs are:

"All children can learn—good teachers, good programmers and a caring approach is vital"
